Abstract

Abstract The learning objectives of this workshop session are to be able to define system dynamics (SD), the core variables used in SD simulation (stocks, flows, and auxiliaries), and mental models. In order to achieve this, participants will build a small, simple SD model and run several preliminary tests to explore changes in dynamic behavior patterns. Several other case studies will be presented and discussed. By completing the exercises and interacting with the case study material, participants will gain a greater appreciation for the ways in which systems analysis using models can help address complex animal science or general agricultural resource problems as well as engage students in active and problem-based learning.
