Abstract

Agranulocytosis and hepatotoxicity are rare, independent and idiosyncratic side effects of thionamide use with an estimated frequency of 0.2-0.5% and 0.1-0.2%, respectively. Only 4 cases (all females) of their simultaneous occurance in the same patient have been reported so far. Evidence suggests that use of granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF) may shorten the duration of thionamide-induced neutropenia.
