Abstract

The objectives of this Clinical Perspectives are as follows: 1) to illustrate the similarities and differences in clinical presentation of anti-N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor (anti-NMDAR) encephalitis and malignant catatonia in children and adolescents; 2) to understand the first steps of intervention to avoid detrimental interventions and delays in diagnosis; and 3) to demonstrate the safety and efficacy of electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) in this unique population.
