Abstract

This chapter introduces the Curriculum Procedures Frames Simulation (CPFS) framework for use in the development, analysis, and assessment of clinical simulation. This framework is based on Task Analysis—a commonly used set of analysis tools common in training design—and systems analysis methods that are essential to business systems analysis and used by consulting experts. (C) Curriculum: Be able to look at the requirements of students and divide them into procedural elements that can be taught. (P) Procedures: Understand the five Ps of Planning, Preprocedure, Procedure, Postprocedure, and Professional development and the range of tools available to organize them into effective teaching units. (F) Frames: Be able to identify and use the interrelationships between the six elements of each training “Frame” and use available resources to best effect. (S) Simulation: Put simulation technologies, techniques, and outcomes clearly into context with a method to objectively assess their characteristics and capabilities. This chapter shows this step graphically and explains them in a step-by-step fashion.
