Abstract

Laser-sintered samaria-doped ceria (SDC) films can be utilized in electrolyte films for micro solid oxide fuel cells. This paper reports improvement effects of characteristics in the green-tape laser-sintering process using an interlayer. As an interlayer NiO/SDC was used because it has an infrared-absorption characteristic and shows the similar coefficient of thermal expansion in comparison with SDC. The SDC green-tape with the pre-sintered interlayer was sintered on the yttria-stabilized zirconia substrate by using a continuous-wave Nd:YAG laser beam. Cracks and voids formation in the laser-sintered SDC film and the substrate were decreased when the NiO/SDC interlayer was pre-sintered at 900℃ for 2 h. This improvement is attributed to the suppression of excessive beam irradiation.
