Abstract

Electrochemically fabricated micro- and nanostructured coatings have attracted a lot of attention in recent years due to their considerably enhanced properties. In particular, electrochemical reactions make a major contribution in the fabrication of a variety of micro- and nanostructured coatings. In this chapter, the advantages and limitations of electrochemical deposition methods in fabrication of various micro- and nanostructured coatings that show improved properties, especially based on their size, have been compared with coatings produced by conventional methods. These coatings were classified, and their synthesis methods, properties, and applications were discussed. Numerous examples of micro- and nanostructured coatings produced by electrochemical deposition are included. Finally, the significance of these coatings in industrial applications and their future are highlighted.
