Abstract

A high altitude shrub birch from Bhutan, south-east Tibet, north-west Yunnan and western Sichuan, which has been referred to the tetraploid Betula utilis, is shown to be a distinct diploid species, described here as Betula ashburneri McAllister & Rushforth.
