Abstract

AbstractA fatty acid amounting to several per cent of the acids in various samples of the liver oil of the ocean sunfishMola mola was isolated and characterized as 7‐methyl‐7‐hexadecenoic acid. This acid and the previously reported 7‐methyl‐6‐hexadecenoic acid are believed to be chiefly responsible for the 7‐methylhexadecanoic acid observed in many fatty acid mixtures of marine origin after hydrogenation.
