Abstract

Quantitative and qualitative parameters of the macrozoobenthos community in Lake Drūksiai were analyzed. We compared our data obtained in 2011–2012 with those of earlier investigations. The comparison of the current situation with the situations before the launch of the Ignalina Nuclear Power Plant (INPP) and during the initial period of its operation shows that stenothermic coldwater species of relict crustaceans and some species of chironomids have disappeared from the bottom fauna. In general, quantitative indices of zoobenthos development have increased in comparison with those recorded in the initial INPP operation period and are characterized by the dominance of oligochaetes in the profundal.
