Abstract

Structural abnormalities in individuals with bipolar disorder (BD) have been reported in cortical, subcortical, and limbic brain systems. However, whether these abnormalities are present in youth with BD spectrum disorders (BPSD) or in offspring of bipolar parents and to what extent need to be explored to enable the recognition of evolving structural abnormalities in bipolar disorder. In this study, we assessed for volumetric changes in three groups of youths as follows: BPSD, bipolar offspring (BPO), and healthy control (HC).
