Dr. Ralston Paterson was in the Chair. The proceedings opened with six chimes of a silver bell sounded by the Secretary-General, Dr. J. W. McLaren.Dr. Ralston Paterson: Your Royal Highness, my Lords, Ladies and Gentlemen, once again, after a long interval, we assemble together as an International Congress of Radiology. It is largely coincidence that this meeting opens exactly 25 years after the first of these International Congresses, but I think it is a very fitting coincidence which brings us together in this self-same hall. Our opening ceremony is graced by two very good friends of British learning—the Earl of Athlone, and H.R.H. Princess Alice, Countess of Athlone. The Earl of Athlone is Chancellor of the University of this City of London, and he must also be very well known to many here from the British Common-wealth countries as one of our most distinguished of Commonwealth statesmen. It is a great pleasure for me to-day, and I regard it as one of the precious privileges of my presidency, that I have been given this opportunity of receiving them here on your behalf. My Lord, I extend to you a very cordial welcome, and would ask you to open for us this Sixth International Congress of Radiology and its associated exhibitions.
