Abstract
Although the role of ball-spin in tennis is extremely important, the phenomena of the impact with a spin seem difficult to understand. In order to make clear these phenomena, the numerical analysis programs based on finite element method have been developed. The oblique tennis-ball impact with spin on a clamped string face is investigated precisely using the computer simulation, to obtain the effect of strings in the impact on tennis racket. It is found that final angular velocity is higher than one in the case of the impact on a rigid plane surface and increases with initial ball velocity and the effect of initial string tension or impact location on the impact characteristics is small.
