Abstract

The obesity‐induced inflammatory response in adipocyte is characterized by an induced migration of macrophages. MCP‐1 and TNF‐α are important modulators of a lipid accumulation and obesity‐induced inflammation. 6‐gingerol has been known to inhibit pro‐inflammatory cytokines secretion from macrophages and abnormal lipid accumulation in adipocytes. Here we show that 6‐gingerol significantly decreased the mRNA expression levels of TNF‐α, aP2, C/EBPα and PPARγ in 3T3‐L1 adipocytes. Also, 6‐gingerol treatment of co‐cultured 3T3‐L1 adipocytes and RAW264.7 macrophages resulted in a decrease in NO production and cytokine expression of MCP‐1, TNF‐α, Interleukin 6 (IL‐6), interleukin‐1 beta (IL‐1β) which is related to inflammation, regulated upon activation interleukin 10 (IL‐10) which is related to anti‐inflammation. We expect that the 6‐gingerol may provide useful applications to reduce the lipid accumulation and obesity related chronic inflammatory properties.
