Abstract

In Alabama, 30% of incident HIV occurs among 13-24 year-olds. Further, Black adolescent girls and young women (AGYW) experience incidence rates 9-times higher than their White counterparts, yet uptake of pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) for HIV prevention among this population is very low. The PrEP Care Cascade is a framework used to identify key steps required for people to access PrEP. Identified steps include eligibility, awareness, willingness, access, uptake, and adherence. We explored healthcare providers’ (HCPs) perspectives of barriers and facilitators to PrEP uptake among Black AGYWs in Alabama.
