Abstract
Unindicated screening for cervical cancer can lead to unnecessary treatment, anxiety, and increased cost. Unified cervical cancer screening guidelines were released in 2012 that recommended against screening young women age less than 21 years of age and introduced recommendations against HPV testing in women younger than 30 years of age. This study examines the effect of the current guidelines on the rate of unindicated cervical cancer screening in adolescent females.
