Abstract
Drug resistance is a major problem of cancer treatment. To overcome the pleiotropic resistance, the therapeutic agent should activate a death pathway(s) that remains functional in tumor cells surviving after multiple rounds of chemotherapy. Cancer cells could be sensitive to the shift of the redox balance. We therefore tested the combinations of non-toxic concentrations of CuO nanoparticles (NPs) or Cu-organic complexes with compounds capable of reducing Cu2+ to Cu+, a reaction accompanied by generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS).
