Abstract
Osteoporosis may result in significant morbidity in lung transplant recipients and is also considered a relative contraindication for transplant in severe cases. The etiology of post-transplant osteoporosis is likely multi-factorial, compounded by steroid use and chronic medical illness. We reviewed the records of all lung transplant recipients at Emory University Hospital and performed a cross-sectional analysis using data on bone mineral density (BMD), 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25(OH)D), parathyroid hormone (PTH), and urinary collagen crosslinks (N-telopeptide and pyridinolines) from 73 recipients who had at least one year follow-up.
