Abstract

AbstractA high brightness LED home theatre projector can achieve up to 870 ANSI lumens with NTSC 120% wide color gamut (equivalent of 1150 lumens in data projector with the same design concept) have been developed. The high brightness is achieved by using the optimized optical design and liquid cooling thermal solution. The optical designs in consideration are the light collection optical system and the lens group between mixing rod and DMD. The light collection system is optimized to obtain 90% coupling efficiency into the mixing rod. The lens group is designed to match the DMD with F number of 2.4 and have optical efficiency of almost 97%. Furthermore, the liquid cooling thermal solution is capable of keeping the LEDs well under 25 °C of the junction temperature limit. Both optical design and thermal solution will be discussed in the paper.
