Abstract

The shape memory alloy (SMA) has hysteretic characteristics and temperature dependent properties of stiffness and damping. The vibration absorption property was investigated for vibration damping equipments and vibration isolation devices. Few works for dynamic mass dampers with SMA have been studied. The semi-active SMA mass damper by the temperature dependent property is considered to suppress vibrations. It is difficult to describe the temperature dependent property of SMA exactly. The fuzzy reasoning is used to control temperature of the SMA mass damper. The effectiveness of vibration suppression by temperature control of the semi-active SMA mass damper is verified.
