Abstract

score, operation time, estimated blood loss, weight of enucleated tissue, and post-void residual urine were also assessed. RESULTS: Data on 86 patients in each group were available for this study. Mean age was 72.3 in postoperative day 1 group (POD1) and 71.9 in postoperative day 2 group (POD2). There were no significant differences in preoperative IPSS, quality of life score, and postvoid residual urine in both groups. There were also no significant differences in estimated blood loss and weight of enucleated tissue in both groups. However, significantly higher scores of dysuria were seen in POD1. Moreover, post-void residual urine on day 2 after catheter removal was significantly greater in POD1. Postoperative complications were prostatitis in 2 patients from POD1, clot retention in 1 patient from POD2, and inability to void in 9 patients from POD1 and in 6 from POD2, resulting in recatheterization. CONCLUSIONS: Catheter removal on postoperative day 2 resulted in less severe dysuria and fewer instances of other postoperative complications.
