Abstract
AbstractTo the best of our knowledge the term “systems engineering” was first used at AT&T's Bell Laboratories some time in between 1920 and 1940. [Buede, 2000] The systems engineering profession made rapid progress for 20‐30 years after World War II, as did all of engineering. Nonetheless it is possible to see the concepts of systems engineering being practiced prior to 1920.The purpose of this paper is to explore one of those cases: the development and ultimate production of the airplane by the Wright brothers.
