Abstract
Recent developments in the synthesis of thioamides and thiolactams are critically compiled. The main focus is not only on methods for thioacylation of amines by thiocarboxylic acid derivatives but also on thioamide synthesis by thiolysis of imidocarboxylic acid derivatives, of nitriles, or ynamines. In addition, methods to synthesize thioamides by addition of nucleophiles to isothiocyanates or similar thiocarbonic acid derivatives are reviewed.
