Abstract

Because of the recent rapid development of techniques of in vitro protein synthesis and their extensive application to the study of regulation of protein synthesis after phage infection, it appears necessary to supplement the description of the techniques given in “Methods in Enzymology.” The standard technique of the “DEAE-system” was modified and adapted to suit the various purposes. To indicate the basic variations, the preparation of the standard system is described briefly, points that have been found to be of special importance are indicated, and the steps are discussed in this chapter that proved to be less critical.
