Abstract

The paper presents the performance of 60 GHz $4\times2$ transparent patch antenna arrays made of double-sided micrometric mesh metal layers. Optical transparency and microwave characteristics are studied and compared with those of an opaque array made of double-sided continuous metal layers. In particular, the influence of the mesh processing of the ground plane is investigated. The sheet resistance of the conducting layers remains below 0.5 $\Omega$/sq associated with an average optical transparency close to 80% over the entire visible light spectrum.
