Abstract

the multivariate model was applied (age, sex, ejection fraction, E/A, medication, New York Heart Association functional class), Big ET-1 was a strong predictor of mortality (p<0.01). When we performed the ROC curve for Big ET-1 to determine its prognostic power for detecting 27 months cardiac mortality, the AUC was 0.684-0.08 (p<0.05). From the ROC curve for Big ET-1, the optimal cut-off vaJue (0.98) had a sensitivity and specificity of 69% and 73% for prediction of cardiac mortality. Conclusions: This work shows that Big ET-1 (endothelin-1 precursor) has a strong prognostic power in a 27 months follow-up study of HF patients. Further studies should be conducted for validating new prognostic and therapeutic consequences.
