Abstract

Research with adult populations and community samples of youth indicates that sexual minority women and girls, and in particular bisexual women and girls, experience high rates of sexual and dating violence (SDV). SDV has consequences for sexual health and sexual risk, with those who report more SDV reporting more HIV/STD risk behaviors such as condomless sex. Yet to date, few studies examine the rates of SDV and sexual risk behaviors among subpopulations of adolescent sexual minority women and girls, or the influence of demographic characteristics (e.g., race/ethnicity, urbanicity, socioeconomic status/SES) on these rates in a nationally representative sample.
