Abstract

BACKGROUND CONTEXT: Transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion TLIF is an accepted alternative to circumferential fusion of the lumbar spine in the treatment of degenerative disc disease (DDD). Several techniques have been described including the use of titanium cages or femoral cortical allograft as a spacer to maintain disc height while allowing for arthrodesis to take place. We examined the use of polyetherether ketone(PEEK) cage as an alternative material.
