Abstract

In this chapter, the interaction between land use and transportation systems is described and a model is formulated for the integrated equilibrium (LUT). An equivalent unconstrained optimization problem is proposed for the case without land use (LU) externalities, which yields equilibrium conditions for the LU allocation and rents system and for the traffic network. The case with LU externalities is formulated as a fixed-point equilibrium problem. These models are analyzed under the logit and frechit formulations. The unique solution of these models is proved for minimum variance of the agents' behavior in the LU system.
