Abstract

Incubation of Chromobacterium violaceum with L-tryptophan gave rise to the formation of both 5- and 6-hydroxytryptophan, probably by an enzymic process. 6-Hydroxyindoles were found to have a specific fluorescence maximum wavelength at 412mμ when activated at 330mμ in 3N-hydrochloric acid.
