Abstract

A careful review of the medical literature using PubMed and Google Scholar failed to find any studies describing the impact of the Breastfeeding Hospital Initiative (BFHI) certification on breastfeeding rates in women with substance abuse. Of specific interest is how this World Health Organization (WHO) approach that promoted certification could play a role in changing the attitudes and motivations of substance abuse-using mothers to initiate and continue breastfeeding their infants.
