Abstract

A 5G antenna design for mobile phone with metal frame is proposed. The proposed 5G antenna for mobile phone consists of metal frame with two open slits, microstrip lines on dielectric substrate and the system ground plane under dielectric substrate. The metal frame with two open slits acts as important one of the antenna radiating elements, connected to the microstrip lines on the dielectric substrate and to the system ground plane under the dielectric substrate. There is a 2mm gap between the metal frame and the dielectric substrate. The proposed antenna has a clearing area of 2mm gap. The proposed antenna's - 6db impedance bandwidth includes the 1660-3694MHz and 4673-5200MHz bands and can fully cover DCS1800, PCS1900, UMTS2100, LTE2400, 2600 (1710-2690MHz) and 5G (3300-3600 MHz, 4800-5000MHz) bands. The proposed antenna has the advantages of little clearance area, large bandwidth and no lumped elements.
