Abstract

57Fe Mössbauer spectroscopic studies have been made on three hexagonal alloys in the title series for examining the influence of the simultaneous substitutions of Mn and Co on the hyperfine internal magnetic field ( B int). The patterns at 17 K could be analysed into four Zeeman split sub-patterns two corresponding to each of the two metallic sites—tetrahedral M1 and pyramidal M2. Based on binomial distribution the sub-patterns are assigned to different compositions of second coordination sphere of iron. Analysed intensities conform to complete preference of M2 site for Mn and 95% preference of M1 site for Co. Results show that presence of Mn causes upto ∼20% reduction in B int on Fe1 site; on Fe2 site B int shows only small change.
