Abstract

Pancreatitis complicates 5-15% of ERCPs and results in considerable morbidity. In pancreatitis, hypovolemia and microvascular hypoperfusion are correlated with histologic inflammation and necrosis. Our aim is to assess whether treatment with aggressive intravenous fluids during and after ERCP, which theoretically optimizes perfusion, prevents post ERCP pancreatitis (PEP).
