Abstract

Recently the Infectious Disease Society of America, the America Thoracic Society and Joint Commission on Accreditation of Health Care Organizations published guidelines that ED patients diagnosed with community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) should receive antibiotics (atb) within 4 hours of Emergency Department arrival. Few studies have supported this requirement. Our objective was to determine the effects of the timing of atb administration (less than or greater than 4 hours) for patients with CAP on mortality and hospital length of stay (LOS).
