Abstract

Chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) represents approximately 70% of all lymphoid leukemias. The majority of cases originate from B-cells, and four abnormalities are known to be of prognostic value: trisomy 12, deletion 13q, 11q, and 17p. At CHEO, an aliquot of peripheral blood is used for B-cell selection/enrichment and Multiplex Ligation-dependent Probe Amplification (MLPA), whereas the remaining blood sample is cultured for 24-48h for reflex interphase FISH for deletions 17p and 11q to exclude low level poor prognosis abnormalities.
