Abstract

Evidence suggests a role for AVP in addictive disorders given its ability to modulate stress responses and social interaction. In rats, elevated basal AVP levels are associated with increased alcohol consumption, while pharmacological antagonism of AVP receptors reduces alcohol consumption. AVP single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) rs2282018 (A G) is associated with decreased AVP levels. We studied the relationship of rs2282018 to AD, and anxiety and stress responses that may mediate AD vulnerability.
