Abstract

BACKGROUND CONTEXT: Smith-Robinson style anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF) with tricortical iliac crest bone graft (with or without plating) is the gold standard in the surgical treatment of degenerative disc disease (DDD) of the cervical spine. However, tricortical grafts may become compressed during normal weight-bearing and allografts may resorb, with both processes leading to settling of the graft and mal-alignment of the fused segment.
