Abstract

To compare US-born versus foreign-born nulliparous California Latinas for their rates of pre-pregnancy obesity and pregnancy outcomes. Nulliparous women represent a more homogeneous population and foreign-born nulliparas are least likely to have had a long residence in the US before delivery. The “Hispanic Paradox” suggests that Latina women have better outcomes than other low SES populations. This could be at jeopardy if US-born Latinas begin to have more obesity and worse outcomes.
