Abstract

Improving the microstructure of powder metallurgy (PM) materials is well known as a means of getting better performance characteristics. German researchers K-H. Lindner, Mannesmann Demag AG Hüttentechnik, Möchengladbach, and C.M. Sonsino of Fraunhofer-Institut für Betriebsfestigkeit, Darmstadt, have been looking at sintering time and temperature as a route to this goal. They report on their findings for a diffusion alloyed PM steel.
