Abstract

Postoperative cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leaks can occur as unfortunate complications of any procedure involving access to the subarachnoid space. A skull base surgeon should be knowledgeable about and comfortable with several procedures which can be employed for the repair of postoperative CSF leak. A stepwise approach to the repair of postoperative lateral skull base CSF leaks is described in this chapter, from pressure dressing to transnasal endoscopic obliteration of the eustachian tube. Postoperative CSF leaks should be treated promptly and aggressively. This chapter discusses a variety of methods that may be employed for the closure of postoperative CSF leaks, as indicated by the clinical scenario.
