Abstract

Background: The incidence of urethral recurrence after radical cystoprostatectomy for bladder cancer varies from 4 to18%. Complete urethrectomy is the treatment of choice for urethral recurrence, having been shown to be superior to transurethral resection and local BCG installation. The perineal approach is the traditional method for excision of urethral recurrence after cystoprostatectomy. The aim of this work is to discuss the feasibility, implications and possible technical difficulties of applying the prepubic approach for excision of urethral recurrence.
