Abstract

Sleep problems in children with ASD have been associated with increased severity of both core ASD and co-occurring symptoms of mental illness. Although directionality of associations is unknown, sleep is potentially modifiable. Understanding the strength of associations between sleep problems and core ASD and co-occurring symptoms of mental illness is needed to identify symptoms that might be ameliorated by sleep intervention. We conducted a meta-analysis of associations between sleep problems and the severity of both core ASD and co-occurring symptoms of mental illness.
