Abstract

The synthesis of dendrimers, dendrons, and dendritic architectures possessing phosphorus derivatives at each branching point is reviewed. The first methods needing the repetition of two steps to create the various generations are described, then thdifferent ways that can be used to shorten the time needed for the synthesis are emphasized. Beside classical dendrimers constituted by only one type of branches and one type of functional terminal groups, more sophisticated dendritic architectures are described, for instance, in which two types of functional groups or branches can coexist.
