Abstract

Offspring of depressed parents are at high risk for developing depressive disorders. Thus, high risk offspring designs have been used extensively to identify markers of risk. Recent studies have found that high risk offspring demonstrate attenuated reward responsiveness with initial studies focusing on neural response to monetary incentives. However, other forms of reward are also critical to examine. In the context of adolescence, response to social acceptance (i.e., social reward) is particularly important.
