Abstract

Although pain is among the most common reasons for seeking medical attention, pain assessment and treatment are difficult. Demographic characteristics have been found to influence pain management decisions. Limited research experimentally examines the use of demographic characteristics in making pain management decisions, and even fewer make healthcare providers aware of their use of those characteristics. One hundred and seven individuals viewed 32 virtual human (VH) patients with standardized levels of pain.
