Abstract

A worm gear drive is widely used as a main gear drive of gear cutting or grinding machines. However, the upper limit of accuracy of worm gear drives can not be increased beyond that of the cylindrical gears due to a limitation in manufacturing techniques. After theoretical analysis, the authors designed and made the index gear drive using the Furguson paradox mechanism.
