Abstract

A quantitative representation method of shape characteristics is studied to enhance design evaluation and marketability of Japanese-make motor vehicle in European market. Front view photographs of motor vehicles are investigated based on the proposed method. As a result, it is quantitatively made clear that there is rather difference in headlight and radiator grill design between European and Japanese motor vehicles. According to the result, a new front view design is figured out that is based on the Japanese-make motor vehicle and that introduces specific headlight and radiator grill design characteristics of European-make motor vehicle. It is verified by questionnaire investigation that the new design enhance design evaluation, compared with the original design.
