Abstract

The behaviour of a fluidised bed electrochemical reactor extracting Cu from a recirculating batch of electrolyte is described. In particular, the measurement of Cu ++ concentration and current over long time periods is reported under conditions of potentiostatic control. Current efficiency measurements are also made, and comparison of system behaviour with theoretical predictions based on a plug flow reactor/stirred tank reservoir model is made. Cu ++ content is reduced to ≈ 0·1 ppm.
