Abstract

Central sensitization plays a role in the persistence, amplification, and spread of pain in patients with Fibromyalgia Syndrome (FMS). Graston Technique (GT) involves instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization based on the concepts of manual therapy and cross friction massage. Light Brushing (LB) stroke is proposed to desensitize the treatment area prior to more aggressive stages of the GT protocol. The efficacy of LB in FMS has not been determined. The present study investigated changes in measures of central and peripheral pain processing following LB in patients with FMS and healthy controls (HCs).
