Abstract

For better understanding DME combustion characteristics, OH radical distributions in DME laminar diffusion flame of co-axial burner were investigated by laser-induced fluorescence (LIF) method. The OH distribution was compared with methane flame. As a result, the OH radical peaked slightly outer the flame surface defined by luminosity of the flame, for both DME and methane flame. However, there is a difference in the distribution in inner flame. Another high concentration layer of OH radical were observed in inner flame of DME, while such a layer was not observed in methane flame. It was suggested that the OH radical in inner DME flame was produced with low temperature oxidation reaction mechanism (LTR), since the temperature at the OH layer corresponded to the temperature range of the LTR.
